Minimally Invasive Surgery (Hip & Knee)
Minimally Invasive Surgery of Total Hip Arthroplasty
As the completion of a traditional hip joint replacement surgery requires a 25-cm incision and the cutting of a considerable amount of muscles and tendons, the process can inflict large damage on the patient, and a long recovery period is needed. With minimally invasive surgery of total hip arthroplasty (MIS-THA), wound sizes and soft tissue damage can be reduced while also achieving satisfying treatment effects.
【Main indications】
Severe hip osteoarthritis patients with excessively worn hip joints experiencing major symptoms of pain, limping, and difficulties in spreading legs apart that require total hip joint replacements.
【Surgical procedure】
1 or 2 small incisions are generated for the process; the usage of smaller incisions can reduce tissue interference and enable prosthetic hip joint insertion with minimal damage to the muscles and other soft tissues. The wounds, only 8~12 cm in length, are smaller than those generated in traditional surgeries and can bring about reduced pain and accelerated recoveries.
The wound is smaller than that of a traditional surgery and is only 8~12 cm long (picture above)
【The features of MIS-THA】
1. Thorough wound hemostasis and a blood loss lower than 100 cc.
2. Catheters are not required during the surgery.
3. Surgical drains are not required after the surgery, enabling uninhibited activity.
4. Generates small wounds, bringing about reduced pain and accelerated recoveries after surgeries.
Minimally Invasive Surgery of Total Knee Arthroplasty
The minimally invasive surgery of total knee arthroplasty (MIS-TKA) generates wounds of 5~10 cm, which are smaller than those generated in traditional knee replacement surgeries, and causes lower degrees of damage and blood loss; as the knees can be bent over 135 degrees after the surgery, the surgery can effectively solve joint degeneration problems and restore quality of life.
【Main indications】
1. Patients with severe osteoarthritis or osteonecrosis and bone deformity
2. Patients with restricted daily life activities and having difficulties performing simple actions (such as walking and climbing stairs)
3. Patients feeling pain when sitting and resting, or even waking up from the pain
4. Patients with gouty arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or traumatic arthritis
【The three major features of MIS-TKA】
1.The surgery duration is short, requiring only approximately 30 min, and catheters are not needed during the surgery.
2.Tourniquets are not required during the surgery, and the blood loss is around 100~200 cc.
3.Installations of surgical drains at the knees are not required after the surgery, making patient care easier for the family members.。
★Mild pain and fast recoveries; the knees can be bent over 135 degrees.
