Dr. Yang, my the other knee will be in your hands!
The hearty 68-year-old Auntie Hong had worked in beauty care and hairdressing before retiring. As she often had to stand for a long time, she began to have occasional pain in her right leg four to five years ago. Recently, the pain had worsened, which even caused her to walk leaning sideways and weakly. After hearing relatives and friends talk about the successful and unsuccessful knee replacement surgery experiences of others, she felt afraid and kept hesitating. It was until one day, when a neighbor recommended the outstanding knee surgical techniques of Dr. Yang, the director of our Orthopedics Department, did she decide to visit the hospital apprehensively.
X-ray examinations revealed osteoarthritis of the right knee. The cartilages had been severely worn, and prosthetic joint replacements were necessary; therefore, Dr. Chih-Hong Yang advised her that it was necessary to perform minimally invasive knee surgery. As Director Yang was friendly, and she had her faith in his medical skills, she decided to receive the surgery after only one outpatient visit. Auntie Hong could get out of bed to use the toilet the day after the surgery, and is in good condition for a month since the discharge. Without children being around, she has to take care of herself; and now, after cooking, she can walk from the kitchen to the living room without problem at all. In an interview during a returning visit, she said to Director Yang joyously, "Dr. Yang, my the other knee will be in your hands!"
【Osteoarthritis】
For patients with severe osteoarthritis symptoms, such as deformed joints, deteriorated cartilages, or bone spurs, joint replacement is generally advised to be performed as soon as possible to improve life quality.
